There’s a number of possible problems. It could be mechanical, i.e. the locking mechanism in the latch is broken or it could be electrical, i.e. the solenoid isn’t getting the electrical signal to lock and unlock.

Thru that opening – Using your fingers – follow the release cable down to the plastic latch. Pull and Voila’ open hatch! What to do if rear hatch does not lock?

I’ll start by checking for voltage at the mechanism. Checked for voltage at the connector at the hatch lock and there was nothing. Opened up the rubber boot (passenger side) and found a broken wire. Spliced and taped wire and all tested ok.

Why does my car lock not lock and unlock?

It could be mechanical, i.e. the locking mechanism in the latch is broken or it could be electrical, i.e. the solenoid isn’t getting the electrical signal to lock and unlock. Why is the tailgate not latching on my Jeep?

Went to close it and nothing…tried it from the overhead button, rear button and key fob. Nothing. So I “closed” it manually and it will not latch/secure the tailgate. Tried to put it in reverse, then drive, then park and open/close…and it just stays open! :slapfight: Thoughts?

Why does the rear hatch on my Fiat 500 not lock?

Rear hatch won’t unlock, doors won’t lock when using key fob. I press the lock (middle) button and then open the door and alarm goes off. Evic had a flashing yellow lock icon for a few minutes, then gone. Any ideas?

How does the back hatch of a Subaru Outback work?

The back seats are always folded down so most things go in and out through the hatch. The broken wire was very close to the roof end of the boot. Maybe a half inch was all I had to splice on a piece of wire that I fished through the boot and attached to the longer piece going to the lock. There was no need to remove the headliner or trim.
