The valve was put in the line in case of backfire – if there was an explosion in the intake it would slam and prevent flame from getting in the crankcase. TJ’s etc with the 4.0 do it differently. There is a long small plastic vacuum line that runs from the intake to the filler cap at the back of the engine.
