Why is the power latch on my Acadia not working?
The original post was really helpful. Just ran into the same issue with my 2008 Acadia where the latch stopped working ( the power lift and close hasn’t worked for a year ) and after replacing the power latch, the power lift/ close is working again also! Just a couple updates:
Are there any problems with the liftgate on a GMC Acadia?

What happens when you power close the liftgate?
Power liftgate closes immediately after fully opening. Usually has a loud clunking noise at top of gate travel just before power closing— it will open fully, drop a few inches, then power close. 1 Weak strut (s) (PLG goes into a customer safe mode and power closes gate slowly).

What to do if power lift gate does not work?
You can now pull the plastic body panel off the inside of the gate. It will require you to pull hard, be careful to disconnect the two electrical harnesses near the latch mechanism before removing the panel completely from the car. Assemble in the opposite order. Nice job, how much was the motor, and for what year acadia?
Why is my GMC lift gate not working?
The problem ended up being the latch mechanism itself, inside the gate. Not sure what caused the latch to fail with respect to it’s commanding of the lift motor to do it’s job, but it was the culprit. So here’s how you fix it:
Why is my GMC power liftgate not working?
The liftgate all of a sudden stopped latching (locking) so had to bungee cord it to keep it closed since I was on the running errands. I could hear the motor (actuator) operating but the latch just does not engage, which leads me to believe the entire mechanism is faulty.
Why is the rear hatch on my GMC Acadia not opening?
Could be a failure of one of the obstruction detection sensors. Someone with a scan tool and the proper software would likely be able to identify which one is causing the problem. cold weather will make weak lift gate struts– even weaker/slower. It may be cold enough- the strut is weak and the liftgate motor- find the door too heavy- and reverses.
