Why is my shift lever not working on my Ford Ranger?
Managed to stop it but injured my knee. Found pin from shifter mechanism on the floor under steering column that had fallen out of shifter. Shifter would not stay in “park” afterwards but kept jumping into “neutral” and “reverse”. Spring tension of the shift indicator would pull it out of “park” as soon as the lever was released.
How can I Shift my transmission out of Park?
To avoid this, engage the parking brake when on an incline before shifting into Park or releasing the brake pedal. That way the parking brake, not the transmission pawl, bears the load and will allow you to shift freely.
Why does my Ford Ranger go into reverse?
Spring tension of the shift indicator would pull it out of “park” as soon as the lever was released. Shifter would go into “neutral” and “reverse” at random. Had to shut off the vehicle and restart when I left car even briefly – not something drivers normally do. Vehicle popped into “neutral” about 75 to 100 times and into “reverse” about 50 times.
How does the gearbox work on a Ford Ranger?
There is a clutch inside the torque converter case which does the locking up and this is controlled by the TCM. The TCM communicates to the TCC solenoid by sending voltage signals and together they allow the gears to shift and disengage without causing the engine to stall.
