Why is my power steering not working on my Mercedes ML 320?

Why does my power steering make a whine noise?
The cavitation or whine is caused by low fluid or a bad filter in the reservoir. If the fluid level is ok look inside the reservoir while the car is running. If the fluid is moving fast inside the reservoir the filter inside is bad and causes air bubbles to get in the fluid because of the turbulent flow. This is what causes 99% the noise!!!
Why does my Mercedes make a groaning noise when I Turn on the car?
Adding power steering fluid to correct the level will typically fix the groaning noise. If it doesn’t the power steering pump may need to be replaced. If your Make Model is making squeaking noises when you turn on the car, it is a sign that the power steering belt may be old or the power steering pump itself is going bad.
Can you use low power steering fluid on a Mercedes?
Avoid driving your Mercedes-Benz (C, S, SLK, CLK, M, E-Class) with low power steering fluid. It is better to use a generic Power Steering Fluid, than drive with very little power steering fluid in your power steering pump. You can also perform a power steering flush to replace all of the old fluid from the system.

What to do if your power steering is leaking?
The only way to rectify this is to replace the filter / reservoir and the O-ring seal on the pump. Ultimate Power Steering stocks a new reservoir and new O-ring seal that when installed will fix this issue. Install the new filter / reservoir and check the system for noise and oil flow in the reservoir and also for any fluid leaks.
How often should a power steering reservoir be replaced?
The plastic reservoir that bolts onto the Power Steering Pump has an internal filter that is molded into the outer sides of the reservoir. This filter / reservoir should be replaced at regular intervals during the vehicles life, we recommend between 40,000 to 60,000 Klms.
