Why is my car AC clutch not engaging?

If the clutch doesn’t engage, the problem could be a blown fuse, an open in the wire to the clutch coil, a bad clutch coil, a poor ground, a low pressure switch lockout, or even a bad engine coolant temperature switch.

Why is my a / C CLUTCH not working on my Jeep?

I checked the fuse and relay in the PDC, jumped the low pressure switch, and confirmed 12-13 v. @ the compressor clutch. Is it safe to say the a/c clutch is my culprit? Should I try energizing it direct from the battery to confirm or…???? Any help or suggestions from the WJ Gurus here is greatly appreciated.

I can easily turn the compressor by hand so it doesn’t seem to be seized. I removed the A/C clutch relay and tried using a jumper wire to engage the clutch/compressor but with the 5 prongs on the relay I wasnt sure which ones to jump together.

When it is intermittent, it is probably more wiring or sensor related. Those intermittent problems are always nice to solve. Don’t read too much into it, I just replaced an A/C compressor on a 4.7l dakota last week that took a couple trips of the customer running over here when it was acting up so I could actually see the problem.

Jeep had kept making them so that I could upgrade to a newer model once I hit 200000 miles. 2007 Jeep Commander, have owned it now for a year. Purchased it used, so somebody else took the depreciation in value. This truck is a tank. It will go through any kind of weather, terrain. Love it. Our family of 5 rides comfortably in it.
