Why does my VY Commodore high idle all the time?
Every time you move that you are dicking about with the tps and auto detent sensor / cable. Clean your IAC valve and throttle body and reset the throttle plate position to its original place. Your tranny problem is likely due to poor adjustment of the auto trans kiskdown sensor/cable.
What causes the idle speed to be high?
USUAL CAUSE The usual cause of abnormally high idle speeds are vacuum leaks or an inoperative idle speed control motor. A vacuum leak on a fuel injected engine will cause high idle. The oxygen sensor will detect the extra oxygen that is entering the engine through the vacuum leak and will signal the computer the exhaust is lean.
What are the signs of a failing TPS?
2. Engine won’t idle smoothly, idles too slowly, or stalls. If you start to experience engine misfires, stalling, or rough idling when the car is stopped, it can also be a warning sign of a failing TPS.
How is the idle speed set on a Commodore?
Any help much appreciated. The idle speed is set by the IAC valve, not the throttle plate position. Every time you move that you are dicking about with the tps and auto detent sensor / cable. Clean your IAC valve and throttle body and reset the throttle plate position to its original place.
Is it normal to have a high idle?
I recommend to remove the idle air control valve from the throttle body, clean it, and also clean the throttle plate. That should help with the high idle. Though again, it is normal for cars to experience high idle until it reaches operating temperature.
Can a bad TPS cause an engine to shut off?
Acceleration issues: A bad TPS may cause all sorts of power issues. Your engine may start up but it will have little to no power and it causes it to shut off. Unstable Engine Idle: Faulty position sensors can cause sporadic idle conditions due to fluctuating airflow.
Why does the idle go up after cleaning the throttle body?
The idle is going to be high at first until the computer relearns the idle again. Cleaning the throttle body allowed more air to enter the engine, and the computer is compensating by adding more fuel.
Can a bad throttle position sensor cause idle surging?
Idle surging can be caused due to other issues in the car, but if it happens in conjunction with other throttle position sensor symptoms, the culprit is often the TPS. At idle, the ECM will not get the correct information and the throttle will variate randomly causing idle surges. 3) Check Engine Light
