Why does my Mercury Mountaineer stall at 70 mph?
Hi all…Frustrated Mountaineer owner here–My 2002 Mountaineer has been stalling at 70 MPH on the freeway. It staills at slow speeds, at stop signs etc. Dealer CANNOT get it to fail of course. It appears to be fuel related. I have seen “Fuel error” message on the display.

Go get the codes ran at auto zone or advance auto parts they will do it for free. If the codes come up as a cylinder miss-fire then it is most likely a coil (being a ford). Write down which cylinder it is.

When did the dpfe sensor go away on the Mercury Mountaineer?
We took the Mountaineer to another dealer and they replaced the DPFE sensor in July of 07. Until then to now the problem went away.

I’ve been told rough idle is the nature of the beast and is common for all Mercury 2-strokes as they are optimized for riding. Fair enough but what’s the root cause of rough idle? (assuming all components work as designed)
Is the Mercury tach bad, or stator?
Re: Mercury Tach Problems – is rectifier bad, or stator?? Your wiring appears to be correct. The tach runs off an AC signal from the stator. The rectifier is a convenient tie in place for the gray wire as the stator also feeds it. Thats why when the rectifier goes bad it affects the tach. Test the stator according to your manual.
Why does my truck not start in cold weather?
