Why does my Mercedes not close the tailgate?
She was driving along today when the tailgate made the noise that it was opening…… and it did!!!!! (it has the soft close and power open function). I managed to get the car home and play with the lock, but it has now got the problem that the tailgate will open and make all the right sounds and noises, but it will not close.
What’s the problem with the boot closure on a Mercedes?
The red button in ht tailgate doesn’t work, and if i hold the boot shut button on the remote it goes to close then stops after 2/3 seconds. If i force close it, the rear lights stay on and the car says the tailgate it open!?!?!

If you manually close the tailgate, will the latch lock and pull the tailgate tighter? A bit of history. Shortly after I bought the vehicle, the liftgate stopped working. When I would push the remote lift button, it would disengage the latch but not lift. Then the latch would re-engage and shut tight.
Is the tailgate button activated when the boot closes?
Current state the boot closes ok when tailgate button activated, but won’t raise. However earlier today it opened ok by the motor/pump, but had to be hand shut. (Didn’t hear motor engage)

So the tailgate can open at everytime when driving, and that’s annoying, also because the tailgate isn’t closing when i close all doors with my key…. I had the same problem… had to change the whole interior latch… once I did it worked perfectly.
