Why does my Magna Solara not accelerate properly?

I’ve got a 98 Magna Solara Auto which has an acceleration problem. I’ve taken it to the local bloke who pulled the thing apart and couldn’t work out the problem. Pressing the accelerator quickly (i.e. flooring it) only makes the thing cough and shudder.

Just to reset the ECU. Sounds like too much fuel is getting in, and its choking the engine. Take it to a decent shop that can diagnose the exact problem. Prob the ecu. If the ECU wasn’t working then I would think the car would not start at all.

It may have been adopting ‘limp mode’ which will give forward drive and reverse but limits/halts most of the transmission’s operation. The flashing neutral light also is a visual indicator that the computer detects a problem.
