Why does my car lock when the key is left in the ignition?

Why does my car lock when the key is left in the ignition?

This switch functions even if a door/trunk/tailgate is open. NOTE: To help prevent accidentally locking the keys in the car, the central locking system is designed to unlock the doors immediately if the key is left in the ignition switch and the car is locked using the lock button on the door. A sound from the lock will be audible at this time.

How do you turn off door chime with key out of ignition?

When I pull up somewhere, I have to stop, turn the key off, open the door so all the locks unlock, shut the door, hit the door lock button on the door (relocking all the doors), then when I reopen the door all the other door locks stay locked. At that point I can manually lock the drivers door and get out.

its the drivers latch. when the drivers door is open it wont let you lock. theres prob a broken mechanism in there the door may be closed but the latch thinks its open. broken pin or something..the earlier cars i dun think it matters weather mor not the keys in the ign. i left the key in the ignition and locked the car and it stayed locked.

Can a car door lock with the driver’s door open?

With a door open the c/locking may click (normal) but shouldn’t lock anything, key in ignition and no locking is also normal. With driver’s door open can you close the door lock latch with your finger and see what happens, this will determine if it’s the physical closing of the door that causes it or the door lock itself.

Is the lock button in the down position?

The lock button should not be in the down position while driving. In case of an accident, this may hinder rapid access to the occupants of the vehicle. (Also see information on “Child safety locks”. Check the action of the buttons on the other doors to verify their correct function (lock/unlock).
