One of the biggest issues that causes a vehicle to crank but not start is ignition issues. When there is no spark, the engine will not start. You’ll probably have a misfire related code such as P0300, P0301, etc…..

Hi! My question is in reference to my 99 Chevy Silverado 1500. It cranks, but won’t start. I checked the obvious (out of gas, etc.) and changed the fuel pump/filter. It still won’t start. Cranks and will 1/2 catch for a second, but then nothing.

Try turning your key to the run position a few times (with out starting). Then try to start it. If it starts, sounds like what mine did. I replaced the fuel pump assembly and that fixed the problems. Very common problem.
