Why do I have to use starting fluid to start my diesel truck?
This starter fluid can fit diesel injector systems. It promotes a smooth start and minimizes battery drain. Since it ignites at a lower temperature than gasoline, it creates quicker starts as well as decreases the wear on the starter. Overall, it’s a great product if you have a stubborn engine that won’t run.
Is starting fluid bad for diesels?
Diesel engines, too, can suffer the effects of starting fluid. Their high compression can cause the fluid to ignite too early, effectively causing pre-ignition, which invites all kinds of problems, like catastrophic piston or rod damage. Plus, it has no lubricating properties, so it can hasten piston wear.
