Why are the brake pads so close to the rotor?
With the brake pedal depressed, hydraulic pressure holds the brake pads tightly to the rotor. It takes a lot of pressure to hold them there, that is why disc brakes have power assist. Foot off the pedal and the pads barely touch the rotor.
Why is there no brake pedal on my new car?
A “no brake pedal” condition can be encountered after a new master cylinder is installed, leading the technician to believe that the master cylinder is defective.
