I don’t know the Mercedes Diesels but modern diesels have particulate filters that periodically burn off due to the engine management system dumping a lot of extra fuel into the engine. Watch your oil level – if it is going up you have a problem which can destroy your engine.

Julien, I owned an ’09 and now a ’14 Sprinter with the V6. Over the years there have been changes, largely in emission controls on these engines. As with other designs there are engineering enhancements that are unseen. Newer ones have a skoche more power and torque.
