What kind of oil to use on 1998 R1100RT?
I am about to do my 1st oil change on my 1998 R1100RT (68000miles) and wanted some advice on which type to use. I ride 100 miles a day in Nevada (LV) so very hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Therefore I was thinking of using either 20W50, 15W50 or 5W40 synthetic.

I have decided a 1999 or 2000 R1100RT will fit my needs and is in my price range ($5000). Looks like I can get one of these with about 50K on it.
Are there any problems with the BMW R1100RT?
Some of the bikes, especially GS’s but I can’t see why it might not be other R bikes, had the engine/transmission interfaces not perpendicular or otherwise lined up properly. Prone to blowing the splines regularly. From what I have heard it was on the tranny side. Sometimes you have to cut your losses!
