What kind of oil do you put in a Sportster?
Some will chime in for Amsoil as well. HD formula+, Spectro Chaincase or even the above oils for the Tranny. Gear oil can also be used if its GL1 rated NOT gl5. Because the Sportster’s primary and transmission share a common sump, be careful what you put in there.
Why did I Turn my Back on a Sportster?
Height, weight and vibration were the three biggest things that turned me off to the Sportster after I had some serious riding experience on it. But hey, that’s just me. There are a ton of Sportster enthusiasts who will ride forever on their beloved Sportster (the cafe racer) forever.
What can I add to my Harley Davidson Sportster?
I also got the dealership to put on some Harley saddlebag brackets to attach some over-the-fender bags (the brackets are necessary on the Sportster to keep the bag off the lights and shocks). A last nice little addition is a windshield bag. This is just a small bag that you attach to the inside of the windshield.
What kind of vibration does a 2004 Sportster have?
Redhead7, welcome to the HDTimeline forum. While I also have a rubber mounted 2004 Sportster, I have ridden and helped others who had vibration problems on their earlier models.
When it comes to the transmission of a Sportster, I stick with a quart of HD Formula+. As for the crank, you can review the opinions of others. My school of thought is this.
Is there a throttle lock nut on a Sportster?
I’ve checked & rechecked the twisty, throttle lock nut that comes on sportsters (poor mans cruise control) in case it was holding the throttle open or something. But, I’ve backed it all the way off or out, and I never use that thing, so I’m at a loss as to what it might be.
What to do when your Harley Davidson is running high?
Jterby, Hoop brought up a good point…also when shutting down the bike, do not blip the throttle…just close throttle, use kill switch and THEN turn ignition off. This allows the ECM to remember all the “idle”, throttle position and store the DTC status.
What kind of oil to use in a Sportster primary?
Does anyone actually know the best type of oil/fluid to use in the Sportster Primary/Trans to help stop the hard knock/thud into first, and when downshifting? Even if it’s an Amsoil or Mobile-1 or other product? Is the Redline Lightweight alright in my bike? Any and all help is greatly appreciated!
What causes gear clunking in a Sportster?
The gear clunking isn’t caused by the oil in the case. Pull the clutch handle in before you start it in neutral and that will help some when you go to first. Start it in first and you will at least eliminate that clunk. Did you find the recommended reading relevant to this discussion?
Can you use Redline transmission fluid on a Sportster?
Originally I got the Redlind V-Twin Transmission W/Shockproof. That arrived on Sunday the 20th, and I put it in that day. After doing some more reading on the Redline website, they say NOT to use their Transmission fluid for Sportsters, but to use their Redline Lightweight W/Shockproof.
