They charged me $110 for the starter and $65 for labor. The place is Ace Armature in Pawtucket, RI and was highly recommended by a coworker. They’ve been around for over 50 years, so apparently they know what they are doing. It made no sense for me to try to DIY, since I couldn’t find a new starter for under $225.

Although testing the starter relay is a good thing to do, I actually was describing using a jumper wire to bypass that relay in the fuse box. On my first gen this can be done either by supplying power to fuse box relay connector pin #5 or #2 , but it might be a different configuration on the second gen.
