What is the story behind Spawn?
An elite mercenary is killed, but comes back from Hell as a reluctant soldier of the Devil. An assassin named Al Simmons is double-crossed and murdered by his evil boss Jason Wynn. Al makes a deal with the devil and returns to earth as Spawn to see his wife. He is ordered by the devil’s minion, The Clown, to kill Wynn.

Spawn is an impressively self-contained comic series. Though it has had many spinoffs, they are inessential to the core reading order that starts with issue #1 and continues past the record-breaking issue #301 – making it the longest-running creator-owned superhero comic.

In spite of his evil sides, I have come nevertheless to the conclusion, that Spawn is one of the most virtuous characters in his universe. He is a crusader, on a mission to cleanse the world of villains like Tony Twist or Jason Wynn. But he’s not some stereotype hero without flaws and always doing the right thing.
What happens when Spawn runs out of power?
The Necroplasm is the source of Spawn’s infinite power, giving him anything from superhuman strength to healing powers and everything his imagination can come up with in between. Hellspawns are created with a limited amount of Necroplasm however. Once it’s depleted, they go back to Hell, giving up their souls.
