My usual service engineer tried one or two things by checking relays etc. but has put me in touch with a Jaguar Mechanic in the South Essex Area that has all the correct diagnostic equipment apparently. He can’t look at it for two weeks though so I might be forced into the arms of a main dealer on this one.

The 3 buttons unlock the radio if the power supply has been interrupted but only works if it is the original radio that was installed at manufacture.If its ever been replaced even with an identical looking radio it wont work. Thanks for that BuckMR2, I will try it when the situation arises.

Yes, the car gave me grief, largely because somethings were being undone for the first time since they were put together and rusty nuts and bolts were a pain. That said, I now have new bushes in the lower wishbone (left the silentblock ones in the end – they were fine), new upper wishbones and new stabiliser arms.
