What is SACD or DVD-A?
Sampling: SACD uses very small sample sizes but records them 64 times more often than regular CDs. The DVD-Audio system uses a lower sampling rate (still two or more times faster than CD) but a much larger sample (20 bits or more, compared with 16 for CDs).

I think the SACD format is definitely worth it, but more than half of the SACD’s I have heard were not mastered great, often noise reduced and EQ’d. The ones that were mastered to stay ss true to the original analog mastering are definitely worth the money.
Can you play SACD on computer?
SACD is basically impenetrable. No unlicensed drive can read the HD content at all, and a PC won’t even see it. There are no PC-based players. Some Sony Vaio systems support DSD audio, but only for internal use; great for audio professionals preparing SACD content, perhaps, but they still won’t play commercial SACDs.
