What does the steering angle sensor do on a car?
The steering angle sensor is a clockspring sensor installed behind the steering wheel. It feeds vital information in relation to vehicle angle to the ESP control module, so in the event of a skid, it will tell SRS, ESP, and ABS control modules which wheel to apply the brakes to help you stay out…
When to reset or recalibrate steering angle sensor?
The Steering Angle Sensor need to be reset or recalibrated after an alignment is per formed or parts in the steering system are replace. For example:steering wheel, airbag spring contact, steering column, etc… How to reset or recalibrate Steering Angle Sensor (SAS)?
Which is part of ESC measures steering angle?
The steering angle sensor ( SAS) is a critical part of the ESC system that measures the steering wheel position angle and rate of turn.
What to do if your steering angle is not zero?
Once the steering wheel is central, check the steering angle using a suitable diagnostic tool – it should be zero. If it is not zero, calibrate the SAS, though it should be noted that some steering angle sensors are centralised mechanically.
What happens if the steering angle sensor is bad?
Since the steering angle sensor is designed to monitor the actions and input provided by the steering wheel, it sometimes can relay false information to the ECM and create a potentially dangerous situation. When the sensor is faulty, misaligned, or damaged, the information it reads and sends to the vehicle’s on board computer is inaccurate.
The steering angle sensor ( SAS) is a critical part of the ESC system that measures the steering wheel position angle and rate of turn.
What kind of sensor is on steering wheel?
In years past, this device was analog in nature, measuring the voltage changes that were created by the steering wheel and relaying that information to the vehicle’s ECU. Today’s steering angle sensors are digital and are comprised of an LED light that measures the angle of the steering input.
Is the steering angle sensor on the com2000 faulty?
We understood the Com2000 contains the steering angle sensor and this tests OK. The fault code can’t be reset and the steering calibration shows the steering angle of the wheels on the diagnostic tool. I have replaced the switch stalks/Com2000 and tried another unit and neither effected this fault code.
