What does empty coolant mean?
If you take a look at your coolant reservoir and notice that it’s nearly empty, this is typically a sign that you have a leak somewhere in your cooling system. If you don’t do this, it’s going to lead to even more coolant leaking out and, before long, you’ll have a coolant reservoir empty.
When to drain and refill a fully sealed cooling system?
Coolant which has expanded as the system warms up passes down the tube into this tank, and is drawn back into the radiator when it has cooled. The system is supposed to be maintenance-free, and is drained only when a hose or the coolant is due for replacement.
What’s the best way to fill the coolant system?
Maybe mix 7 qts of coolant with 2 qts of distilled water and fill the system, save some mixed for the overflow. Top off with distilled water. BTW, leaving the cap off while warming up the engine wont hurt it, at least not in the hands of a pro.
When to fill coolant block with block empty?
Fill back to the min if needed. Then on the next drive cycle, check the reservoir while the engine is warmed up. Fill to the max level if needed. Check the coolant level on the next couple of drive cycles. DO NOT operate the engine with the radiator cap off. Rod_Knox July 6, 2016, 5:04am #4
When to close air bleed after filling coolant?
Repeat until the coolant level no longer drops and if you have added more than 9 quarts (based on your figures) close the air bleed, it should be safe to start the engine and run it till the top hose is hot to indicate that the thermostat is open.
How to drain and refill a fully sealed cooling system?
Tighten all the hose clips and close all the bleed screws. With the engine running and hot, keep topping up the radiator as the air bubbles are dispersed. Trapped air tends to collect at the highest point of the system. Where there are no bleed valves, slacken the return hose of the heater unit – the bottom hose – and allow the air to escape.
