Hi, One of the meanings of the word ‘to stroke’ is to gentle touch, brush or caress, as in an animal. However, my American friends have told me that it’s hardly ever used and ‘to pet’ is preferred instead in this meaning. What’s more, if you do use ‘stroke’ it could be taken to mean ‘to jerk the dog off’.
