This is widely known as the next phase from powder. It’s when more and more people ride through powder, the snow gets packed in certain places, piled in others, generally an even uneven surface with slippery patches and huge lumps of powder. It’s not great fun to ride but it’s snow nonetheless so we can’t complain too much.
