What causes diesel engine vibration?
Vibration is easily attributed to misalignment, a bent shaft or a deficiency with a propeller. Often, though, none of these assumptions are true, and the true source of the problem is engine misfire. The combustion process is one of the most important functions of a diesel engine.
How do you stop a diesel engine from vibrating?
The key to improve the noise is to reduce a combustion noise known as “Diesel knock noise”. Conventional approaches to reduce the diesel knock are decreasing combustion excitation force due to pilot/pre fuel injection, adding ribs to engine blocks or improving noise transfer characteristics by using insulation covers.
What is engine order vibration?
The “order” of the vibration is simply how many “bumps” it makes per revolution. Engines have a preset order to their vibrations. That order is equal to half of the number of cylinders that an engine has. That’s because per every one revolution of an engine, half of its cylinders fire, producing a “bump” per firing.
Why do 4 cylinder engines vibrate?
RAY: Four-cylinder engines vibrate because they produce fewer explosions per turn of the engine’s crankshaft. So, with the explosions spaced farther apart, you tend to be aware of the spaces between them.
When do I feel the vibration in my Volvo XC?
I started noticing some excessive vibration of the chassis under acceleration about 4 days ago. The vibration or shuddering is most noticeable at highway/freeway speeds. I suspect that it’s there when driving around town but not as noticeable at slower speeds and/or starts and stops.
Why does my Volvo Car wobble under acceleration?
Drive axles are not cheap and if that is what it is, go with OE axles because many folks have had issues with the cheaper aftermarket axles. The good news is that the car drives nice and solid with new axles. Is it more noticible under acceleration? If you get on it a bit the wobble feel will get worse if the axle is worn.

Why does my Volvo XC have a shudder?
The problem persisted, though sporadically, and other mounts were fine. Searched the threads some more and thought it could be bad ignition coils/plugs or the passenger side drive axle. Looked at the axle and inner CV boot was damaged and a lot of grease had leaked out. There was play in the axle when yanked on by hand.
