What causes an idle motor to exaggerate the hunting?
Vacuum leaks are a big cause of exaggerating the hunting. The idle motor doesn’t have enough power to overcome a lot of “False Air” or air leaking into the induction system after the air sensor plate. A big and common source of leakage is old injector seals.
Why does my 454 make noise at idle?
It’s too much headache to pull the cams to get to the shims for a thousandth or two when it really doesn’t affect anything that badly. If the noise comes from the cam drive area where the chain and sprocket that operate the dual overhead cams is, which I think is the center on the 454, it may be that the cam chain tensioner is going bad.
Why does my bike make noise at idle?
Strength and Honor. If the noise is when the bike is cold, it’s just valve clearance and such. For future reference if it’s after warm up then you need to listen carefully where it comes from. If it comes from the valve area on either side of the cam drive, it is just loose valves or normal.
Why does idle motor it self have so much delay?
The idle motor it self has quite a bit of delay to get the mass of the motor internals moving. The engine itself has the most delay from air fuel volume changes to resulting RPM changes. So say your engine is at 600 RPM and the idle controller makes a change to the ISM to increase the RPM.
Are there any idle problems with performance camshaft?
Although Holley employees will take part in answering questions from time to time, your questions may or may not be answered by Holley personnel. Thus, Holley can not guarantee an answer or timing on an answer. Yes, this is another thread about idle problems together with camshaft with big overlap.

What should initial timing be on performance Cam?
Or as a last resort, drill small holes in the primary throttle blades. First off if your cam has a high lift/duration, you need to be running as much initial timing as your starter can handle without dragging. Try running about 21 or 22 degrees of initial timing. It will help with two things.
