If the problem is fixed on the return line, The turbo should be fine. It is very rare for it to cause damage. Hi I have a 2.2 HDI that leaks oil in the intercooler and then burns it. What happens if you put oil in a turbo Chra?
You are not going to damage a tool steel piston ring with a little oil. There is actually no oil pressure against the seals. What happen is the turbo CHRA got flooded with oil and had no where to go but out.
What kind of seal is on a turbocharger?
Just about all seals are steel piston rings. Some have carbon seals on the compressor side. The carbon seals are originally for draw thru carburetor systems, low mounted turbos, and high pressure crank cast systems. Carburetors would have a high vacuum on the compressor seal. That in return would pull the oil out of the turbocharger.
Is the oil return line on my Turbo bad?
You may have a turbine wheel very undersized for the larger compressor wheel. As to the oil return line, That won’t blow the turbo. It can make it smoke. But, if you fix it the turbo should be fine. I have a International 175 track loader.

Oil Light comes on frequently. Another indicator of a potential issue with your oil level sensor is when the light comes on sporadically. The oil level sensor is supposed to come on as soon as you start your motor, as the data is collected while the motor is turned off.
What causes oil to leak from a turbocharger?
When a turbocharger is installed correctly, it should NOT leak oil, however, there can be cases where oil leaks occur. The following highlights some of the main causes and signs of oil leaks. The above diagram shows the correct oil pressure in both housings resulting in no leaks from the turbo.
What happens when you have an oil leak in a turbo?
Keep it simple: Under the Circumstances Where the Turbo Is Leaking Oil, You are also Losing Oil Pressure. It is Very Common for the Engine to Spin Bearings, or lose Compression Due To Lack of Oil Pressure in the Engine, Due to Your Turbo Leaking all the Oil pressure out the Turbo Seals.
How to check the oil level on a hot engine?
Oil should be checked on a warm/hot engine. After turning it off let the oil settle for 10-15 minutes then pull the stick wipe it, replace it and pull it again checking the level. Continual checking just drags oil up the tube which then smears on your dip stick making it hard to get an accurate reading.

What kind of gas does a 05 V70 use?
Our ’05 V70 with 2.4 (non turbo) has been doing fine burning regular (87 octane) gas. It was a demonstrator/loaner that was purchased about 6 weeks ago and I’ve only pumped regular, so I can’t really make a comparison. As long as it doesn’t knock and continues to get about 24 mpg for daily commuting I’ll stick with regular.
What is the compression ratio on a V70?
The owner’s manual is quite clear on this. The non turbo can use 87 octane, the turbo needs 91 octane, minimum. My wife has an 04 V70 base model non-turbo 2.4L 168 hp. The specs page of the owners manual gives the compression ratio (CR) as 10.3. The compression ratio of the 2.5T 300hp is only 8.5, and the other turbos are either 8.5 or 9.0.
