& filed under Harley Tips. Q: 2009 Harley Ultra Classic w/25K no past problems in the past, but on 07-12-14. I had a problem with what I found out and is called “Limp Mode”! no throttle response at all other than running at idle. Error codes I found on the bike were; P1511 & P2135. all having to do with the Harley throttle control.
How many miles does a 09 Ultra have?
Discussion in ‘ Electrical ‘ started by SJSHD, Dec 13, 2011 . I have a 09 Ultra with 10,000 miles on it. I baby the bike most of the time except for last week I was riding it more agressive and the check engine light came on and it went into lymp home mode.
When did no throttle response engine light come on?
No throttle response engine light came on, 2010 street glide. Ya’ll just need to go backward in time, a time when things were simpler-go find ya a nice Evolution powered bike with a CV carburetor !! Don’t worry about what they think down at ” bike night”-heh heh, best to all-nothin but love ! I just paid my ‘11 ultra off.
Is there a problem with the throttle module?
On my 09 FLHTCU when I had the problem it was intermittent and unplugging the throttle module connector at throttle body and cleaning it with electrical parts cleaner and putting dielectric grease in connector fixed the problem. (You must log in or sign up to reply here.)

How does the throttle work on a Harley Davidson touring?
The fly by wire equipped Touring’s use a twist grip sensor, electronic throttle control actuator (throttle body), and an engine computer to determine throttle input from the rider. The connections between these components must be good for normal engine operation.
Is there a problem with the throttle by wire system?
A frequently occurring problem was found with early throttle by wire system and a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) was released. This bulletin guides you through the diagnostic steps to determine what connection or component is creating your throttle problem. A diagnostic trouble code will help pinpoint the problem area.
Where is the throttle actuiator on a Harley Davidson?
Also check the electronic throttle actuiator that slides into the handlebar and plugs in to the harness. These can fail but not very common. There’s also a green connector inside the fairing so you will need to remove outer fairing skin to find it and check for corrosion.
What are the voltages on a Harley Davidson throttle?
P2135 – The Throttle Control Actuator has two potentiometers (designated as TPS1 and TPS2) and a electric DC motor for controlling the actuation of the throttle. The two TPS sensors work opposite of each other; TPS1 voltage ranges from 0.0-5.0 Volts, while TPS2 voltage ranges from 5.0-0.0 volts.

When did Harley Davidson eliminate the throttle cable?
In 2008, Harley Davidson implemented a throttle by wire design, eliminating the throttle cable. One of the nice advantages of this system is electronic cruise control, but this design has its disadvantages, too, such as loose connections and broken sensors. By Weston Chadwick – March 16, 2016
What should I do if my throttle body is bad?
As a part of your regular service intervals, include the air induction service and fuel injection flush to clean out any carbon deposits and dirt. You will need to have the check engine light shut off by a qualified mechanic.
Why is my throttle control on permanent limp mode?
Let the silicon dry before reconnecting the connector to the TPS, this prevents the silicon from POSSIBLY running to the pin, preventing pin to pin contact. (Silicon on the TPS pins is a very bad thing = permanent limp mode until you remove all silicon from the pins and TPS plug.)

What should I do if my throttle position sensor fails?
This is intended to at least allow a driver to get off a busy highway in a safer manner. Once the TPS begins to fail, even partially, you’ll need to replace it right away. Replacing the TPS will include clearing relevant fault codes, and may require software reprogramming of the new TPS module to match other engine management software.
When did electronic throttle control come out for Harley Davidson?
Harley-Davidson Electronic Throttle Control. In 2008 Harley-Davidson introduced a new throttle system called Electronic Throttle Control (ETC), which eliminates the throttle cables connecting the throttle and the throttle body and replaces them with an electronic connection.
What should the idle speed be if the throttle is turned off?
If the ignition is turned off with the throttle in a position other than 0 percent throttle, the system wants to use a higher rpm as the new idle speed the next time the engine is started. If you shut the bike off at 1,800 rpm, the next time you start the engine it will use approximately 1,400 as the new idle speed.

When does idle come back to normal on a Harley Davidson?
Just seems to happen when I’ve been running at a fairly wide open throttle maintaining higher speeds for a while (fwy) or longer stints (catching all green lights) on the streets at a speed of about 45 or more. It always seems to come back to a normal idle after getting back into first gear when stopped, or when I start going again in 1st.
Why is the RPM on my Harley Davidson so high?
(Could be you went through 50 key cycles with no engine issues) When you get off the interstate & the idle is high,,, if you were to power it off and restart the bike, does the idle calm down or does it resume the high idle. Would help to know how high the RPM was, but you have no tach. (?)

Where is the throttle body sensor on a Harley?
Found out that the wiring harness was damaged right where it makes the bend and goes into the throttle body sensor. Happened when I was in Missouri on my way to sturgiss. It got kinda hairy going into limp mode on the highway when traffic is doing 75-80 mph.

ETC is standard on all 2008 and 2009 touring models, including CVO touring models. Four years ago a group of engineers set out to clean up the appearance of the big bikes’ handlebars.
Where is the throttle grip sensor on a Harley Davidson?
The throttle-grip sensor is keyed to the handlebar with a series of notches cut into the bar that mate with bosses on the throttle-grip sensor. The throttle-control actuator includes a geared, permanent-magnet DC motor, and two sealed automotive-style throttle-position sensors mounted to the side of the throttle body.
What is the Hall effect on a Harley Davidson?
This is known as the Hall effect—there are no contacts, brushes, or wipers to malfunction. At the throttle body, two separate throttle-position sensors compare the position of the throttle plate and verify that it is in the position called for by the magnetic sensors in the throttle-grip sensor.
