How does oil drain out of a Harley Davidson tank?
The checkball in the oil pump has probly failed allowing the oil in the tank to drain into the crank case. I had a softtail would do the same thing. If you have kick start you may be able to kick it over slowly and gently. Oil will pump out of the crankcase vent hose . Schmidty probly knows a better way.
How much oil is in the crank case?
Discussion in ‘ Engine, Fuel and Exhaust ‘ started by Capt’n Jim, Sep 17, 2016 . I have a 1985 FXR that has set up a while (6 months+) and the oil has leaked by the check valve ball and now has about a quart of oil in the crank case.
Why is oil draining out of my crank case?
In the past it has always cleared itself by dumping out (all over the engine) through the crankcase vent, but this time there is enough oil in the crank case that the starter cannot turn the motor to fire up. Any suggestions short of pulling the motor, removing the jugs and turning it upside down? Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

Where is the oil drain plug on a softail motorcycle?
Unscrew the engine oil drain plug with a 5/8-inch socket and a socket wrench. On Softail models the engine oil drain plug is under the right side of the motorcycle’s frame, near the rear wheel. Dyna and Touring models have their oil drain plugs under the transmission housing. Drain the engine oil into an oil pan.
