Is it safe to breathe gas through the tailpipes?
Working near exhaust fumes exposes you to poisonous carbon monoxide (CO) gas, which is present in large amounts in vehicle exhaust fumes. Overexposure to this odorless and colorless gas can cause death. Even mild exposure to CO can cause headaches, dizziness, nausea and fatigue.
Why is gas coming out of my muffler?
This is caused by excess fuel in the fuel/air mixture and it can be cause by a few different parts failing. The most likely parts causing these problems are a leaking fuel injector, a fuel regulator that’s stuck closed, or a restricted fuel return line.
Where does the gas go when it comes out of the tailpipe?
Along the way, the gases travel through the catalytic converter, where any remaining fuel is converted to water to reduce emissions. Finally, the gases exit through the tailpipe. When everything’s working properly, this exhaust is colorless. But if something is amiss, you’ll see a cloud of smoke coming out of the back of your car.
Why is there smoke coming from my tailpipe?
Any color smoke coming from your car’s tailpipe is a sure sign that something needs to be addressed, and like with most repairs you’ll save yourself money down the line if you’re able to take care of it immediately, before your dashboard lights up to tell you it’s time to “service engine.”
How is natural gas piping cleaned with gas blows?
Before new fuel gas piping can be connected to a combustion turbine (CT), it must be cleaned by “decompression” gas blows. The pipe to be cleaned is connected at one end to a gas reservoir. This can be a tank or upstream section of clean empty piping.
What to do if your engine has black smoke coming from the tailpipe?
By removing each cylinder spark plug and checking their condition (black or wet with fuel) you can identify the afflicted cylinders. Once completed remove the injector (s) for a physical and ohms test across the coil. Remove the EGR to check valve operation. When this valve is not in operation it should remain closed.
