How to do an oil change on a WR450?

With an oil change on the ’04 WR450 – I’d like to know any tips for getting all the old oil out. Do most of you just take the two bolts out (frame one and under bike one) and drain this way?

IMO that’s not too bad, and I change the filter every other time. As for the WR450, the fuel injected ’12-’15 have the reliable 5-valve motor. The new ’16 is different and closer to the YZ with 4-valve, but I hear it’s awesome. BygDaddee likes this.

When to do oil test on WR450 dirt bike?

It tells you in the workshop manual to do this test, but I reckon that if it pumps oil up into the oil tank after about 15-30 seconds of idle the pump is primed! Any opinions on this? I always do the “test”.

And since carrying 1 quart would be easy, and you can probably stretch that interval in a pinch, call it 1500 miles without being riding distance of a place that sells oil…. One Fat Roach, Bitingdog and FrankThineTank like this.
