How to disable the timing on a TBI?
The emmision sticker states to disable the timing by disconnecting the timing connector. The Haynes manual says to look for a tan wire with black stripe under the relay cover. I cannot find this connector. (I have often found discrepencies with the Haynes manual)
Where is the TBI timing on my 93?
On my 93 its under the cover on the pass. side firewall. It was taped to the wire loom by the relays. On a 94 it is in the harness thats right by your heater core, in the cab on the passenger side, look underneeth, pull the wire loom back and you’ll see it.

I figured that the manual was wrong, but who’d thought that it would be under the glove box. Easy access though.
What to do if your inital timing is out of Spec?
If you’re above 36 degrees, go back and reset your inital timing back a few degrees.. if it’s below 32, bump it up a hair and try it again. As long as the total timing is right, don’t worry about the initial being out of spec.

How to set the timing on a 1994 Chevy 1500?
Tighten hold down and recheck the timing. Stop the engine and connect SET TIMING connector. Clear control module trouble code by disconnecting control module power source. With engine at operating temperature, drive vehicle at part throttle with moderate acceleration and decelerate to idle condition.

The location of the set timing connector is inside the cab where the heater box and the carpet meet on the passenger side floor. Pull carpet back to expose the single wire and connectors on the outside of the control module harness.
