How to check low voltage on coil in muscle car?

How to check low voltage on coil in muscle car?

Disconnect the coil (+), and with the car KOEO, you should read 12volt+ everywhere up to the coil (+) end. Turn the key off, reconnect the coil (+), and test the resistance from coil (-) to the battery (-) terminal.

Where does the voltage go when cranking the starter?

There are two sets of contacts inside the solenoid: one high current contact for powering the starter, and a smaller contact for bypassing the pink wire/ballast resistor during cranking. During cranking, the low current contacts bypass the ignition switch’s 12V feed to the coil and put 12V right to the coil.

Why does my Coil have a low voltage?

I don’t know without testing your wires, connections and grounds where the fault is. There is a possibility your tach is internally leaking power to ground, causing the low voltage to the coil.

How does a low voltage coil start a boat?

Connecting the “I” wire (with it’s temporary boost in the start mode) to the resistor’s low side (where the coil is ALWAYS connected in run mode) is the SAME as connecting the “I” pole to the plus side of the coil and uses the coil’s wire to the resistor instead of adding a second wire to the coil’s positive pole.

Is the MS 6 volt coil a ballast resistor?

As far as I know I do not think ms 6 volt system uses a ballast resistor. It should whether it be an actual ballast resistor, or a primary resistance wire. On the coil small terminals are there two wires on one terminal, and one on the other leading to the breaker points?
