SAMSA consider a SA Sailing recreational sailing certificate of competence to cover recreational power vessels. This is clearly stated in Marine Notice 13 of 2011….Conversion to Sail and Power.

How long is a skipper’s license valid for?
The interim/temporary license is valid for 6 months and SAMSA will most of the time issue the permanent license in this period.
