How do you tune an automatic transmission?
Automatic Transmission Shift Point Tuning
- Shift up below the maximum RPM.
- Shift down above the idle RPM.
- The up and downshift points must be far enough apart that the new RPM after shifting up is not lower than the downshift point (and vice versa).
When does a VY V6 Commodore overheat?
Discussion in ‘ VY Holden Commodore (2002 – 2004) ‘ started by dabs, Nov 20, 2015 . My VY V6 commodore is overheating normally after an hour drive on the highway at speeds of 100kph-110kph. This happends randomly and has been going on for about 6-8 weeks. ( so far has dumped coolant about 3 times.
Why does my VY Commodore high idle and rough gear change?
If it’s idling high, banging gears and throwing codes, chances are the ECU’s not getting a TPS input signal and/or the IAC is stuffed/idle screw is out of range, but you’d need a Tech 2 to check specifically what it’s getting upset about.

Why do you need a ripshift short shifter?
RipShift short shifters are designed to reduce shift throw which results in harder, faster and more positive gear changes which are more crisp and precise. Fully adjustable positive stops help against over-shifting and damaging synchros, while the unique spring action makes 2nd to 3rd shifts ultra fast.

What kind of idle does a VY Commodore have?
It’s a 2004 VY V6 Wagon BTW. Also has had rough idle and stumbles to almost stall when reversing and turning the wheel at the same time. Only other thing I notice is a clunk at times when shifting down from 2-1 but only when gliding / coasting into a stop.
Can a faulty TPS cause a VY Commodore high to go hard?
A faulty TPS will make for hard and messy gearshifts on a VY, so I’ll be putting my money on that. As per others- there is no idle adjustment, so never touch them. IAC valve controls the idle using data from all the relevant sensors. You can remove the IAC and clean it out, but they rarely fail.
