How do you replace the throttle cable on a Honda Accord?
Pull the cable through the barrel clamp until it’s tight (don’t use a tool – your strong pull is all you need. With the throttle lever in the idle position (against the lowest step on the cam), hold the cable tightly and tighten the barrel clamp screw securely with an 8mm socket. Replace the throttle arm spring.
Where does the accelerator cable go in a VW?
The accelerator cable passes through the guide tube and through the metal tube running through the fan shroud, rearward to the carburetor, where the barrel clamp (cylindrical metal fitting – see picture below) on the end of the cable attaches to the bottom of the throttle lever.
How do you connect accelerator cable to throttle lever?
Using the barrel clamp, loosely connect the accelerator cable to the bottom of the throttle lever (see the picture below). Note: The only drawback we see to the stouter “bulletproof” cable is its lack of a solid metal end connector as on the stock cable.
What happens when you replace the throttle cable on a motorcycle?
The throttle cable or cables (larger motorcycles have more than one) open and close the throttle valve on the carburetor or throttle body. When these break, acceleration control is seriously affected or completely lost. Replacing and installing a new throttle cable can be tricky without proper preparation. Step 1
How are throttle cables adjusted on a motorcycle?
On machines with multiple adjustment points, minor adjustments are made at the throttle cable housing and major adjustments are taken care of on the throttle body/carburetor. The first step to adjusting dual throttle cable machines is to remove any necessary dust covers and identify the accelerator and decelerator cables.
How do you adjust the throttle grip on a motorcycle?
Commonly, the decelerator cable is adjusted first. Decelerator cable tension is usually set so that there is no play when the throttle grip is completely closed. Once the decelerator cable has been set, the accelerator cable is adjusted. The accelerator cable tension is usually set so that 2-3mm of free play is present in the throttle grip.
How do you remove throttle cable from carburetor?
On single cable carbureted applications featuring round or oval slide carburetors, unscrew the top cap of the carburetor where the throttle cable enters the slide. Compress the return spring and carefully remove any necessary hardware securing the cable end to the slide.
When does the accelerator cable go into tension?
The accelerator cable goes into tension when the throttle is twisted open and the decelerator cable is put in tension when the throttle is closed. Each cable is often easily identified visually by looking at the housing design or by making minor adjustments and determining what is affected.

How does Dave use the throttle cable extender?
Dave uses a throttle cable extender, which attaches to the cable and then goes through the barrel clamp. The screw in the barrel clamp tightens down on the cable extender instead of the cable. Great look, too!
How do you replace the accelerator pedal cable?
Start the new cable into the tube just to the rear and slightly inboard of the accelerator pedal. Make sure to have a few rags handy, then lubricate the cable with grease as you push it into the tube (grease your fingers and slide the tube between your fingers as you push it in to the tube).
