With the Electric Shift model, you change gears by clicking an UP and DOWN arrow button on the left side of the handlebar. There is no clutch on this model, just click up and down with your thumb to change gears. If you don’t want the ES model, Honda also makes the fully automatic DCT Rancher and the manual / foot-shift Rancher 420.

Click to expand… Your brake drum might be wore a lot. You can try removing the brake lever from the cam and rotating it forward a spline or two on the brake cam. I have a suzuki LT250ef it has a sticky brake. Is fixing it anything like your honda thx 400? great post, I had a similar issue where my rancher rear brakes were not working.

Why are the brakes on my Honda recon sticking?
Good info. Made this a sticky. great video but Ive got a 2004 honda recon and am stuck in the middle of trying to figure out how to separate the brake panel plate from the drum. they came off together when I tried to get the panel plate off. also the brake lever at the panel cover was nearly frozen and I could only move with mallet. thanks

I also needed to clean out a lot of previous owner mud from the wheel side of the brake panel. The shaft that the brake arm is attached to was also dirty where it passes through the brake backing plate. Once cleaned up and greased, it was much easier.
