How do I reset my cam chain tensioner?
Use a straight slot screwdriver small enough to insert into the hole and engage the mechanism. Turn it clockwise to retract the plunger. If the mechanism is working properly, as soon as you remove the screwdriver, the plunger should spring out again automatically. You should not be able to push the plunger in by hand.
Can I reuse a timing chain tensioner?
Yes they can be re-used. Depending on how much wear and tear or how much mileage you have on your engine, might be better off to replace them.
What happens to cam chain when timing chain wears?
The remaining problem, which applies regardless of whether the engine is stock or modified when the timing chain has worn, is that the cam chain tensioner will have quite a job trying to take slack out of the valvetrain. When a timing chain elongates it may not do so in a uniform way and parts of the chain may be tighter or looser than others.
How do you release the cam chain tensioner?
Begin by removing the cover bolt on the cam chain tensioner (1). Then insert a 3mm hex key and begin twisting counter clockwise until it can’t be turned anymore (2). This will retract the cam chain tensioner back into itself so that it relieves pressure applied to the cam chain. The hex key stays in the tensioner during this process.
How to release cam chain tensioner on Yamaha FZ-07?
Begin by removing the cover bolt on the cam chain tensioner (1). Then insert a 3mm hex key and begin twisting counter clockwise until it can’t be turned anymore (2). This will retract the cam chain tensioner back into itself so that it relieves pressure applied to the cam chain.
Why does my timing chain make a rattling noise?
Excess slack in the timing chain can cause a rattling sound or even a clanking sound if the slack is severe enough to cause the chain to contact the timing chain cover. If the engine is equipped with a hydraulic timing chain tensioner, the noise may disappear or lessen as the engine oil warms up and the tensioner removes some of the slack.
