Does ASCAP have a contract?
This Agreement contains the entire understanding and agreement between you and ASCAP concerning the Services and supersedes any and all prior or inconsistent understandings relating to the Services and your use thereof. This Agreement cannot be changed or terminated orally.
Can you switch from ASCAP to BMI?
You can, but it’s complicated. BMI asks for at least a two-year term after your initial affiliation date. ASCAP does not have a minimum term; they have specific windows throughout the year where you can request the termination of your affiliation. Your window will depend on when you first affiliated with them.
Do you have to renew ASCAP?
There is a one-time, $50 fee for submission of an application. This fee is non-refundable, but ASCAP does not charge annual dues or fees.
How long is ASCAP contract?
ASCAP license agreements operate on an annual contract year, calculated at 12 months from the date you enter into the ASCAP license (sometimes known as the “effective date”).
How long are music publishing contracts?
As with the administration agreement, representation is limited to a specified duration (usually not less than 3 years), and the fees retained by the foreign subpublisher for its services are negotiable within certain limits.
Which is better BMI or ASCAP?

Can a recording artist be a member of ASCAP?
ASCAP does not license rights for recording artists, musicians, singers or record labels. However, artists/musicians who are songwriters can become ASCAP members. ASCAP licenses the performance rights for the music of its members.
Do you need a release letter to join ASCAP?
If you’re a writer member of another US-based PRO, you will need a release letter from your current PRO to become a member of ASCAP. If you’re a publisher member of another PRO, you can join ASCAP as a publisher without a release letter. I have multiple publishing entities.
