The only issues I have ever seen on the ls motors timing components are a result of huge cams. The ls3 style tensioner system can break with big thumping cams and the ls1 style cam sprocket bolts have been known to back out. Stock stuff seems to hold up great.

I’ think I’ve only replaced just the chain once on a stock engine because it had over 300k and the timing was all over the place. But other then that, only if I was in that deep fixing something else on a high mile motor and then it just makes sense to do it.
