Why does my lilbit smart have heavy steering?

Two days ago Lilbit (2006 Pulse-182,000) was reported to have heavy steering. I suspected low tire pressure and did have to add air all around. What to do if u-joint on smart car goes bad?

If its just a u-joint and you have other means of transportation, i would remove it and take it to a driveline speciality shop to see if there is another replacement joint with the same dimentions. As you know the dealers want to sell assemblies (bigger dollars) rather that repair components.
