Do bigger spark plug wires make a difference?
There isn’t any performance to be gained from spark plug wires, just better build quality, which gives you not a better spark, but rather maintains an appropriate spark for more miles/years before their performance degrades to the point of needing replacement.
Are shorter spark plug wires better?
The shorter the wire, the less resistance for the electrical activity to flow. This also goes with the thicker wire compared to the thinner set. You will always need a little play in the wiring though as the engine rocks a little with the motor mounts and you do not want them to tight that they will get pulled off.
Can I shorten spark plug wires?
The good news is that you can always cut and crimp your wires to the length you need. It’s important to do this carefully. If done incorrectly it may cause a space to occur between the spark plug wire conductor and its terminal. This space reduces continuity, or the flow of electricity in the circuit.
Why are ignition wire conductors bad for cars?
For many reasons, the effect of EMI on engine management computers is never predicable, and problems do become worse on aging production vehicles as sensors, connectors and wiring deteriorate and corrosion occurs. The problem is often exacerbated by replacing the original ignition system with a high-output system.
Is there such thing as a low resistance ignition wire?
“Low-resistance” conductors are an easy sell, as most people associate all ignition wire conductors with original equipment and replacement ignition wire carbon conductors (which progressively fail as a result of microscopic carbon granules burning away and thus reducing the spark energy to the spark plugs) and with solid wire zero-resistance
Why does my ignition warning light keep coming on?
One possibility is that the warning light wire is being earthed somewhere along its length. Check this by turning on the ignition and disconnecting the warning light wire. If the warning light stays on, the wire is earthing somewhere. Inspect the wire for any chafing against the bodywork and repair it with insulating tape.
What kind of conductor is a nology ignition wire?
Nology’s “HotWires” consist of unsuppressed solid metal or spiral conductor ignition wires over which braided metal sleeves are partially fitted. The braided metal sleeves are grounded via straps formed from part of the braiding. Insulating covers are fitted over the braided metal sleeves. These wires are well constructed.
