If the Hyundai Terracan’s four-wheel drive system is engaged but no drive is transmitted to the front wheels, the vacuum actuator on the front axle could have a leak. The front axle has a ‘Centre Axle Disconnect’ mechanism which connects the right hand axle when 4WD was engaged.

Took it to Hyundai who straight away identified that a bearing in the rear diff had collapsed, and the oil in the rear diff was heavily contaminated with metal fragments. They replaced the rear diff and tested the car, and all OK.
