Can a faulty coolant temperature sensor affect cooling?
Cooling Fan Operation. The cooling fan is turned off and on as needed by the engine’s control computer based upon information from the coolant temperature sensor. A faulty coolant temperature sensor may result in a fan not being properly used, which may cause the engine to overheat.
Why does my radiator fan only work when temperature sensor is off?
Fan will default to on with no signal from the sensor, the only other item would be the fan control module. I only have a location as being at the left front of engine compartment. The PCM is also involved in this circuit, but I would suspect the control module, a dealer scan will show if this module is faulty.
What happens when I unplug the temperature sensor?
The fan still inst working, however if I unplug the temperature sensor the fan works from start up. The fan also works when the A/C is on. What could be the problem? have the same problem? Fan will default to on with no signal from the sensor, the only other item would be the fan control module.
How does the cooling fan work on a car?
The cooling fan is used to blow air across the radiator which helps to accelerate the cooling of the radiator and the engine coolant inside it. The cooling fan is turned off and on as needed by the engine’s control computer based upon information from the coolant temperature sensor.

What should temp be when cooling fan does not come on?
NOTE: if the cooling fan doesn’t come on when the engine has been operating for 20 minutes or more, make sure that coolant is reaching operating temperature, around 220°F (104°C). You may be dealing with a stuck-open thermostat.
Why are my radiator fans not turning on?
This is why the fans go on. Normally this means that the wiring and the PCM (which turns on the fans) is functioning. I would suspect a faulty sensor, but it was replaced. There could be a problem in the wiring to the PCM. High resistance or a partially broken wire causing the temp sensor signal to the PCM to be skewed / inaccurate.
