Why does my Mercedes C class timing chain rattle?
The adjusters have a spring inside that allows them to use the oil pressure to advance or retard the timing. Once the adjuster fails internally, the internal spring is not able to correctly maintain constant pressure against the camshaft, causing the adjuster to ‘slap’ back and forth creating the loud rattle.

Can a timing chain cause a car to fail?
Because this fault has to do with the timing of the engine, it can certainly lead to the engine needing major repairs or in worst case, complete engine failure due to possible valves contacting with pistons. So with that being said, it is definitely something that should be repaired ASAP.
Why is the timing chain on my M271 not working?
Rotate the engine several times to make sure the timing marks line up right. 4.5 hours from a non-pro and 22 hours for the pro’s. So pathetic. It’s so unfortunate the problems with the M271. Must’ve been the Chrysler influence? The m111 doesn’t have these issues. Though I threw a code last night, and got a misfire. Likely it’s another coil pack.
Are there timing issues in the c250 CGI?
We initially said that timing issues are more common in the later C200 and C250 CGi vehicles. Well, that was true back when we said it. Since then we have repaired roughly the same amount of Kompressor motors as we have CGi ones. In doing so, we have learnt the major differences in the faults between the two.
