Why is the Speedo not working on my Renault Clio?
Hi, no it doesn’t have ABS and no other lights come on when the speedo stops reading. the light that came on was the ECU warning light. It sounds like you have an electric speedo not a mechanical and there may have been a fault present. These faults should be stored in the ECU and could therefore be read by either Renault or a good mechanic.
Why is the warning light not working on my Renault Clio?
This has happened on and off all weekend with the speedo and warning light (speedo zero, light on and vice versa) coming on and off with anything from 2 mins to an hour between changes. Everything else on the car works perfectly and it drove to Wales and back with this going on/off without a hitch.
Where is the speed sensor on a Renault Clio?
Turned out to be the speed sensor on the gearbox. Cost about £25 from Renault Dealer. Located centrally behind the engine in the top of the gearbox. Remove the air filter to get a bit of room. It had a small heat shield clipped to the side to protect it from the exhaust, just pull this off.
What to do if your speedometer stops working?
You can try replacing the speed sensor, which usually loses the seal, oil enters and that is why it stops indicating. One cheap solution is to remove the sensor, open it carefully, clean all the interior properly, stick with a cyanoacrylate adhesive the cover that was removed and finally reinstall it.
