What causes rattling noise in engine?
One common problem that will cause a rattle at idle is a failing hydraulic valve lifter. The lifters are small parts that open and close the engine valves, activated by oil (hydraulic) pressure. If you hear a “clack-clack” kind of rattle when you start your car’s engine, it could be a sign of piston slap.
What does engine rattle sound like?
The most common engine rattling at idle isn’t an engine problem at all. What you’ll hear is a clattering, tinny metal noise when you idle. The catalytic converter is an emissions control component in your exhaust system. Its honeycomb-style core superheats unburned gases in the exhaust before it leaves the tailpipe.
Why does my car make a clicking noise when I press the gas?
In most cases, a tapping sound will come from two areas; the top of the motor or the axle shaft area. With the engine, the tapping noise is either lack of oil lubrication in the top of the motor (or loose valve train hardware like lifters) or due to engine knocking (small misfires).
