Why does the solenoid make a clicking noise?
If things were all good prior and the lights are dimming when the starter button is depressed that seems to suggest power is in the solenoid relay (the electro magnet that pull the internal bar across the solenoid poles,battery to starter) circuit. It sounds like the solenoid is bad or its relay anyway if it cranks when the poles are jumped.
