The transfer clutch, which is used in the 4-speed automatic, can fail in a binding condition. When this happens, the car will exhibit “torque bind” symptoms, which manifest as apparent hesitation, wheel hop or shaking when the car is going around a tight corner/turn at low speed.

Why does my car shake when I turn the wheel?
When pulling into a parking space, going forwards, the front wheels will start hopping and it sounds like it is grinding. In reverse the rear tires will spin and the fronts will hop a bit, but not much. I will see tonight if the problem occurs while stopped and just turning the wheel, or only while moving.

Why does my car shake during a tight turn?
If your car is an automatic, it sounds to me like the transfer clutches are engaged and causing the chatter/binding/shuddering during tight turns. These clutches are supposed to disengage (or at least reduce pressure to let the clutches slip) so the front and back wheels can travel at different speeds during tight turns without binding.
What causes a Subaru AWD to turn full lock?
Mine does it if it is turned full and on pavement and it is a 2009 XT atuo (4EAT) with VDC. Just wondering what year and type of transmission you have. It could be simply the clutches involved in the AWD engaging when turning at full lock.

What causes a Subaru to spin to the bottom?
It should stop wherever you rotate it to. If it’s badly out of balance there will be a heavy point that will spin to the bottom. This test is not as good as a mechanic will do with specialised equipment, but it’s good enough. – Abhi Beckert Feb 4 ’15 at 9:32

Why did my Subaru Outback hesitate to change the spark plug?
My hesitation was due to my plug wire on #3 breaking apart after the last spark plug change (I pulled on the proper location of the wires to take the wires off). I changed them in the parking lot of the local Subaru dealership (when I was out of town!).
